4-H is a youth organization committed to building outstanding leaders with marketable skills to succeed in today’s global society. 4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults.
What is 4-H?
4-H Youth Development is part of Kentucky Cooperative Extension. Extension’s mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of Kentucky citizens through non-formal education for the entire family. Extension agents and volunteers take the results of university research and explain it in such a way that different age groups can learn and apply the information to their own lives. Kentucky 4-H believes in providing positive youth development experiences that all youth to experience belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity.

4-H’ers, regardless of their background, socio-economic status, race or gender, benefit from their participation in Kentucky 4-H. Positive youth development studies have affirmed that compared to other youth, young people involved in 4-H are:
- Four times more likely to contribute to their communities.
- Two times more likely to be civically active.
- Two times more likely to make healthier lifestyle choices.
- Two times more likely to participate in Science, Engineering and Computer Technology programs during out-of-school time.
- 4-H girls are two times more likely (Grade 10) and nearly three times more likely (Grade 12) to take part in science programs compared to girls in other out-of-school time activities.
4-H Clubs and Project Information
This group focuses on fun projects that include educational activities, science experiments, and crafts. For youth ages 5-8.
You can participate in one or more of these project groups. New members will
learn basic skills which they can build on as they progress through the different levels. Each year,
members can showcase their projects at the county Fashion Revue.
Developing skills related to Rabbits such as care and health, breed identification (ID) and
characteristics, equipment ID , and skills related to showing. This program offers hands on learning
with rabbits but youth are not required to own a rabbit.
Members will learn about poultry care, upkeep, and showmanship. Youth do not have to
have fowl to participate. Open to ages 5-18.
Includes the following species: cattle, goat, sheep, and swine. This club meets once
per month with additional learning opportunities provided. (Ages 9-18; youth 5-8 are considered
novice and may only show goat, sheep, and swine.)
Developing skills related to shooting sports such as care and safe handling of
bows and firearms, and equipment identification (ID). Introduces youth to careers related to the
shooting sports industry through presentations and possibly field trips. It is not required to have or
own any equipment. Must be 9 years old (4-H Age) to join.
High school youth meet monthly to focus on leadership & community service. Open to ages 13-18.
Art Club will meet monthly and will explore different techniques such as drawing, painting, sculpting, etc. Open to ages 9-18.
Adventure Club will take trips monthly and explore many different things Kentucky has to offer. Youth must attend orientation on September 10th to participate in this club for the new program year. Open to ages 9-18.
